Mel Koe
Mel Koe is an organizer led by courageous curiosity and a deep belief in the dignity and self-empowerment we all possess. A drive to build relationships and get to know their community led Mel to a conversation with an unhoused neighbor, which sparked Mel's organizing journey. In the last few years, Mel has organized small business owners to pass paid family medical leave in MN and a labor standards pilot project in Minneapolis, coached other organizers in building power, and worked with labor unions and partners on economic and housing justice. After the sudden passing of her mom, Mel is now exploring the intersections between bereavement justice, counseling, and deathcare. In her free time, Mel loves cooking, meaning-making, and all forms of creating.
